Lake Argyle Swim
Lake Argyle Swim
Held on the first Saturday of May every year, the Lake Argyle Swim is now one of the Kimberley’s favourite community-based sporting events, and one of the most popular freshwater swims in Australia.
First recognised in 2006 when six swimmers from Balmoral Beach Club, NSW took on the full 60-kilometre crossing of the lake to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the event has grown to include hundreds of competitors from around Australia.
Mission
In 2011 The Lake Argyle Swim Inc. was formed to provide stability for the event which now includes a gala dinner and multiple team and solo formats.
The events mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle through swimming and encourage tourism to the area.
Race Information
The Lake Argyle Swim departs from deep water start at the heart of Lake Argyle and finishes in the spectacular Bamboo Cave near the Lake Argyle Boat Ramp & Resort.
Note that only experienced open-water swimmers may enter the event which takes place in water that is generally between 22-26 degrees celsius.
Race Categories
Competitors can choose from distances of 10km or 20km in the following formations:
- Solo
- Duo (teams of 2)
- Relay (teams of 4)
Registration
Competitors can register their participation at lakeargyleswim.com where you will find details about entry fees, support crew and the Gala Presentation Dinner which follows the event.
Teams need to organise their own skipper/boat and paddler/kayak. Only 10km solo competitors are provided with a kayak and transport to the deep water start line.
Entry fees do not include transport to nor accommodation in Lake Argyle or Kununurra.
