GETTING TO AND FROM DISCOVERY - ROTTNEST ISLAND
How do I get from the ferry to the property
Discovery Resorts – Rottnest Island is an easy and scenic 1km walk from the ferry pier through the main Rottnest Island township.
As the island is predominantly vehicle-free, most guests enjoy exploring the island as they make their way to their accommodation on foot. We only provide transfers on request for guests with impaired mobility.
If you have impaired mobility and require a transfer from the ferry to your accommodation, please let us know in advance so that we may obtain relevant permissions from the Rottnest Island Authority and make suitable arrangements.
If you have luggage, you can check it in with your ferry provider and it will be sent to Discovery by the Island’s delivery service. This can take up to 4 hours once you’ve arrived so we recommend packing a day bag with bathers and anything else you might want to use straight away.
Do I need to carry my own bag to Discovery
There’s no need for you to take your own bag onto the ferry or to Discovery as there is a luggage delivery service. Luggage tags will be sent to you on booking, or you can collect at the ferry terminals. Please attach these to your luggage, and on boarding the ferry your luggage will be stored and delivered to Discovery Resorts - Rottnest Island (as is the case for all accommodation providers on Rottnest).
ACCOMODATION / TENTS
What are the differences in the tent styles?
We have four different styles of tent, and sizes vary ranging from 3 x 3m Standard Tents to 6.3 x 6.3m Deluxe Dune Tents.
All tents have pillow-topped beds and are fully furnished with hard-wall ensuite bathrooms.
Our Standard tents are perfect for couples or duos who want a comfortable ‘under canvas’ experience and don’t need the space of a Superior or Deluxe tent. Standard tents come with a queen-sized bed and still offer ample space with ensuite. They also have a small deck with table and chairs. They don’t have a kitchenette.
The Superior tents are larger than a Standard Tent and come with a king bed. They have a kitchenette (sink, microwave, kettle, toaster), and more deck space, and outdoor furnishings.
The Superior Family tents are just like the Superior (above) but have an annex with single bunk bed to suit families with kids.
Deluxe Dune tents are our premium tents. They come with king-sized beds and a walk-in robe with a double vanity. These tents have premium furnishings and a floor-to-ceiling glass sliding door to maximise the views, plus a larger decking area. Some of our Deluxe tents are beach-facing with ocean views . They are in the best location in the property.
An Accessible tent option is also available.
How many people can be accommodated in the tents? What size are the beds?
Standard Tent– 1 Queen Bed (2 people)
Superior Tent– 1 King Bed (2 people) Can also be configured into two single beds on request.*
Superior Family Tent – 1 King Bed and separate annex with bunk beds plus a rollaway bed or trundle* (2 – 5 people)
Deluxe Tent – 1 King Bed (2 people)
Accessible Tents – 1 King Bed and Bunk Beds (2 to 4 people)
*A roll away bed suitable for a child is also available to add to Superior and Deluxe tents for an extra $65 per stay. An additional child supplement of $40 per night will also apply in these cases. To request a roll away bed please add this to the notes when booking online.
Porta cots are available for hire for $25. Please request at Reception.
How can I book for a group?
If you are travelling with a group of families or couples, our adjacent duplex tents which are positioned in clusters around BBQ and gathering areas will be perfect for you.
When booking online, you will be prompted to provide any requests for adjacent tents, and we will do our best to accommodate these requests. You can view our tent map here.
Currently our web functionality is restricted to booking one tent per transaction, so if you’re wanting to book tents for a group you will need to make individual bookings for each, or contact us via rottnest@discoveryparks.com.au
Will it be just like camping?
It is, but in much greater comfort! Think of us as the perfect option for people who think they don’t like camping.
You have the benefits of camping, like sleeping under canvas and being close to nature, but you’ll be sleeping in a super comfortable bed with quality bed linen. You’re elevated off the ground with a solid floor, have a deck with outdoor furnishings, and best of all, an ensuite bathroom! Tents also include a kitchenette in Superior and Deluxe tents, a 2-seater lounge, and a ceiling fan.
Tents are arranged along boardwalks so you will have neighbours and may hear some ambient noise from around the park, just as you would at a campsite. We do ask guests to respect our 10pm quiet time policy to ensure everyone gets a great night’s sleep.
What kitchen facilities are included?
There are kitchenettes in all tents except the Standard Tents. They comprise of a bar fridge, microwave, sink, kettle, toaster and base utensils.
There are a number of shared BBQ facilities and gathering spots throughout the property.
Our on-site restaurant, Pinky’s Rottnest Island, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with Pinky’s Sunset Deck also operating from October to March offering easy, food truck style food and beverage options.
Do tents have private bathrooms?
Yes, all tents have a private ensuite bathroom with solid walls, shower, vanity, towels and amenities. Ensuites in the Deluxe Dune tents also feature a double vanity.
Are the tents air conditioned?
No, our eco tents are designed with a number of zip-up windows and doors for natural ventilation and have been positioned to maximise the cool evening breezes. They all have ceiling fans over the beds.
Is it cold in winter?
Our tents stay surprisingly warm if windows and doors are kept closed during the day. Additional blankets are supplied in tents. We do recommend bringing warm clothing for the evenings if you plan to sit outdoors at Pinky’s Rottnest Island or at your tent as we are a coastal location and it does cool down at night.
