About The Property

A BRIEF HISTORY

Discovery Resorts – Lake Argyle was originally built to provide accommodation for construction workers during the damning of the Ord River in 1968, which created Lake Argyle as we know it today.

First opening as Lake Argyle Park in 1973, the property has been operated by several hospitality businesses, including hotel conglomerate Accor, which ran it as a tourist village from 1987-1994.

In 2004, Kununurra local Charlie Sharpe won a bid to operate what was by then a run-down site, investing heavily to add luxury villas, cabins and campsites, along with boat cruises and the world-famous infinity pool, which still gets included on global ‘best of’ lists.

Recognising the need for further investment, in August 2021 Mr. Sharpe listed Lake Argyle Resort for sale, attracting several bids from around the world. Australian-owned and operated G’day Group, the owner of Australia’s largest network of holiday and caravan parks - including Discovery Parks - was the successful buyer, identifying the opportunity to unleash the full potential of this already iconic property.

AN INCREDIBLE JOURNEY

Covering more than 5 hectares among the rolling savannah of the Ord Valley in WA’s stunning East Kimberley, Discovery Resorts – Lake Argyle is like nowhere else in the world.

Considered reward for anyone who makes one of two iconic Australian road trips to get here; the Savannah Way via Queensland and the Northern Territory, or the Gibb River Road in Western Australia’s far northeast, the resort is a great place to base yourself while you explore the spectacle of Lake Argyle.

Located 35km off the Victoria Highway at the end of a sealed road, the entire property is shaded by hills to the west each afternoon and is set amongst the tranquillity of the Kimberley’s superb natural attractions and abundant wildlife.

ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES

With options to suit all budgets, guests can choose from Deluxe Lakeside Cabins with private balconies and views of the water, Deluxe Studio and Standard Cabins that are fully self-contained, or Powered and Unpowered Sites with access to all of the parks’ amenities, camp kitchen and the world-famous infinity pool.

We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our amenity blocks and laundry facilities. The Lake Argyle Inn café and restaurant, general store, open-air BBQs and communal camp kitchen provide plenty of eating options close to your accommodation.

A tour desk operates from the resort reception and staff inside the park are mostly locals who will be only too happy to recommend a Lake Argyle adventure of your choice.

OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND

Due to demand throughout the year, Discovery Resorts – Lake Argyle remains open all year-round. At peak times of April to September it is advisable to book well in advance.

We do try to leave some sites open, but these are usually snapped up quite quickly on a first come first serve basis, so we highly recommend calling a few days prior to your anticipated arrival.
