Bushwalking In Lake Argyle
A popular network of bushwalking trails has been established behind the remnants of Lake Argyle Village, metres from the resort entrance.
Each one will immediately engage you with the native flora and fauna of Lake Argyle, the breathtaking scenery of the local landscape and the topography of the lake.
Below are two easy-to-complete walks that start and finish close to the resort. Both are highly recommended. During your walk, look out for rare species of bird indigenous to the area, friendly marsupials (who may be as curious about you as you are about them) and all manner of native Australian reptiles!
Bluff Lookout
5.2 km return
1.5-2hrs
Elevation: +163m
Moderate difficulty
Starting from the resort on Lake Argyle Road, this walk takes you around the cove to the Bluff Lookout via the Bluff Walk Trail. The Bluff is an excellent lookout over the lake offering stunning views and the chance to get close to the areas native plant and wildlife. Take note that there is very little shade along the walk, so we recommend beating the heat by setting off in the early morning. The trail is very well signposted, so there’s very little chance of getting lost.
Ord River Gorge Lookout
1.2km return
30-40min
Elevation: +71m
Easy
Starting from the resort on Lake Argyle Road, this easy half hour walk is a nice introduction to the rea and a great way to orient yourself once you’ve settled in to your accommodation. Taking you along a well marked trail toward the Ord River Gorge and Dam, you will get your first glimpse of the magnificent Lake Argyle here. Take your time to enjoy the panoramic views of the vertical rockfaces and the 341-metre dam. Again, there is limited shade so a wide-brimmed hat and water bottle is highly recommended.
For more trails close to the resort, enquire with our staff. They will be more than happy to recommend some longer walks to deepen your understanding of Lake Argyle.
