Mountain Biking

Explore the beauty of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park by bike and take in the grandeur of the surrounding bushland, mountains and gorges. From thrilling two-wheel expeditions to more relaxed cycling experiences, one of the best ways to see Adnyamathanha Country is to explore the mountain biking trails that surround Wilpena Pound Resort. Bring your own or hire a bike from the Wilpena Pound Visitor Information Centre.

Trails and information

Take the leisurely trail to Old Wilpena Station, meandering through native bushland towards the historical site from where you can then discover the settlement on foot.

Wilpena Pound Resort is also a convenient overnight base for long-distance cyclists eager to hit the trails in the area. Popular tracks include the adventurous Rawnsley Park to Willow Springs Trail (73km), a two-day long ride skirting the Appealinna Ruins, while offering riders the chance to catch a glimpse of the adorable furry locals — the Australian red kangaroos.

The Gum Creek to Wilpena Pound Trail (55km) is another wonderful way to take in the landscape, boasting spectacular scenery as it passes by Moggs Hut to join the famous Mawson Trail. Cyclists can bask in the beauty of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park from Red Hill or Bunyeroo Lookout, then follow along Wilcolo Track back to Old Wilpena Station and back to Wilpena Pound.

Please note: there is no bike access into Wilpena Pound itself.
